Where we started...
In 1884 a journey of faith began on the front porch of Ida Hale.
She and the founding members of First Pres understood that this meant following God’s call into his Kingdom purposes for them. From day one this was a spiritual journey as God invited them forward in faith as individuals and as a church. Our history included 5 different locations for the church as it grew and positioned itself to reach more people. Their legacy inspires us to move forward in faith with the same trust and obedience and a sense of expectation that the Lord intends to do something extraordinary in us and through us!

- 1884 First Presbyterian Church was established, meeting in the home of Mrs. Ida M. Hale on Marion Street in downtown Tampa, then a small town of about 1,000.
- 1898 First Pres built a wooden sanctuary on the southwest corner of Zack and Marion, on the site of what is now the Meridien Hotel.
1900
- 1900 First Pres sold its property to the federal government and moved its wooden sanctuary directly across Zack Street
1922
- 1922 First Pres built the Spanish Renaissance style sanctuary that stills stands today and moved the wooden sanctuary directly north to be used for Sunday School.
- 1949 First Pres removed the wooden Sunday school building and built the 3-story building that no longer stands today
2021
- 2021 First Pres sold it’s Zack Street property and purchased the Horatio Street property on which now stands our current church home.
